Voter turnout the highest in Draculian history during 2022 Special Election

Elections have been a significant part of Dracul since 2018, especially when it comes to the first Presidential Election, which was held last year. Voter participation is important for a democracy, due to the fact that the people are the ones who decide the future.

On average, only about 20 citizens register to vote, either due to their age or disinterest in elections. But even with 20 registered to vote, approximately 15 usually cast a ballot. The 2022 Special Elections however showed an unusual change, as 16 out of the 18 who registered ended up casting a ballot.

The Presidential Election of 2020 resulted in about 20 ballots casted, however, that was mainly due to that being Dracul’s first Presidential Election. When it comes to voting in midterms and for new Members of Parliament, those elections are typically some of the lowest when compared to this election.

It’s unknown as to why so many voters actually participated in this election, especially since all candidates ran unopposed. No one can argue though that the turnout was the best on record, which is certainly a blessing.

“We all know these candidates who are running unopposed are going to win, however our form of government requires ballots to be casted regardless.” said President Stephen Luke. “It’s part of the civic duty of a Draculian to cast ballots anyways, so we’re glad more than 80% performed their duties.” he added.

Voter Registration Certificates, which are issued to those who register to vote, expire every two years. Registering to vote is typically only open in election years, due to the fact that registering during non-election years will leave voters with an unused, expired card. Registering to vote is quick, free, and easy.

With more activity starting to kick back up within the Commonwealth, we can only hope that the number of registered voters, along with those who actually vote continue to rise, especially in future elections with actual competition.
