Dracul-Austenasia visit results in mutual recognition and friendship

BRAN DISTRICT – The nations of Dracul and Austenasia came together late this morning, for an official in person state visit, while battling the rain and a few technical issues. A heavy rainstorm began as the two heads of state arrived, however quick moving and an umbrella allowed the event to proceed on time.

Prime Minister William Wilson of Austenasia, along with President Luke of Dracul met around 11:00 this morning and carpooled to Bran District, the Capital of Dracul.

The state visit started with both dignitaries walking into Bran House, pausing for their national anthems, then proceeded to sign a treaty of mutual recognition and friendship. Both expressed their appreciation for the treaty, while a phone call was made to His Imperial Majesty Jonathan I.

A tour was conducted of Dracul, showing the Prime Minister all of what Dracul has to offer, including its newly built wildlife preserve in North Dracul.

After departing Bran District, the two heads of state went on a tour of Dracul, with President Luke explaining each area. A gift of gratitude was given to Prime Minister Wilson for his travels to Dracul, resulting in food, water, and a few Draculian memorabilia items.

Next Saturday, a visit from Zar Antonov from Obscurium will take place at 2pm central.

Dracul gifts last territory, Las Verdes Colinas to Raphania

DARVIN – The third Parliament of Dracul voted in a 2-0-1 decision on Sunday evening, to gift the Las Verdes Colinas territory to the Grand Emirate of Raphania.

Las Verdes, before it was made into a Draculian territory in 2021, was an unclaimed section of land in the Arizona macro city of Gilbert, originally controlled by Grand Emir Charles Ross.

Throughout its time under Dracul’s control, the land remained mostly abandoned, mostly due to a lack of nearby Dracul citizens.

Ross requested the land in May of 2022, due to his nearby physical presence, and due to the fact that the territory was never functional under Dracul.

“We felt there was no reason to hang onto land we did not utilize.” said President Luke. “Raphania is trying to further relations with us and desires more land. We’re doing our part as a good friend by assisting with this.” he added.

Breco Territory was the first territory to leave Dracul’s control, after Grand Marshal Scott Jeanes made the decision to declare independence, back in April of 2022.

There has been no public mention of Dracul desiring any new land claims as this time.

Dracul, Texas Micronations, keeping an eye on the Gulf of Mexico this week

TEXAS REGION – With a cold front expecting to arrive this coming week in the Texas region, Texas micronations are monitoring the weather, as the frontal boundary may create a low-pressure system, after its departure.

It’s currently unknown how strong the storm will be, however with sea temperatures holding in the high 80s to mid 90s, it’s certainly a catalyst for a potential tropical storm to build on Houston’s doorstep, without much warning or time to evacuate.

Normally this time of year, the sea temperatures are not as high as they currently are. Storm systems only need about 80F to start forming, so it was quite alarming when the most recent discovery was made.

It’s not fully verified that a storm will happen, as these are computer models predicting what may happen due to current and potential weather situations.

The Dracul Weather Bureau will continue to monitor the weather, as well as provide any emergency updates to Draculians who may not be aware of the potential development.

Dracul-Austenasia set to sign treaty of mutual recognition

BRAN DISTRICT – President Stephen Luke of Dracul, along with Prime Minister William Wilson of Austenasia, are set to meet on July 2nd in Bran District, Dracul, for a formal, in person signing of a treaty of mutual recognition.

The news was made on the morning of June 23rd, as an event was added to the Dracul Discord server.

This treaty comes after Dracul made foreign policy changes limiting micronations from applying for mutual recognition.

“I spoke with Emperor Jonathan several months ago about mutual recognition, before our new policy went into effect, so we will be honoring our initial discussion.” said President Luke.

This treaty will create new relations and add to the additional ones of other well known micronations, such as Westarctica, Flandrensis, West Who, Aigues-Mortes, and others.

It’s unknown at this time if other treaties will follow, such as trade or defense treaties.

A state visit and tour of Dracul will take place as well, before the treaty signing begins.

Dracul-Breco launch new continental organization

The Commonwealth of Dracul and Irish Federation of Breco launched a new organization last week, named the North American Charter Organization or NACO for short.

Stephen Luke and Scott Jeanes formed NACO for the purposes of creating an organization of micronations that share technology, intelligence, and cyber security information. Most importantly, the members of NACO will aid one another in the event that one is under a cyber-attack, such as hacking, and attempt to prevent a data leak of personal and/or confidential information.

“I think it’s crucial in a day and age such as this, that we have a structured, serious organization that’s willing to bring in other micronations who want to take cyber security and technology sharing seriously.” said President Stephen Luke of Dracul. “If we share technology with others, it will help improve other micronations as well.” he added.

While NACO has a military style to it, especially along the lines of defense against cyber-attacks, it is not the same thing as the macro-NATO organization. Some critics have been quick to judge NACO, calling it a “NATO copy-cat”, however those claims have been ignored by the founders of the organization, with the founders advising that it isn’t a war organization.

“We will be very selective on who is admitted into NACO, ensuring that all applicants meet all of our requirements” said Scott Jeanes, leader of Breco. “If we feel that professionalism and dedication cannot be achieved by a NACO member, they will be removed by either the founders or by a majority vote.” he added.

Last week the Grand Emirate of Raphania was admitted into the organization as the first official new member. Other members are currently pending approval as the organization begins building its first website, release date TBA.

President Luke starts new campaign; fights handicap abusers

HOUSTON – Seeing a President wearing a parking enforcement hat is rarely ever seen, given that most of the time Presidents are in suits and assist the communities at their desks.

President Luke began his newest and most successful campaign on Monday afternoon, suiting up for his first shift as a volunteer handicap enforcement officer for the City of Houston.

The decision was made about two weeks ago, when President Luke personally noticed the amount of violations at just his job alone.

“It’s beyond ridiculous.” said President Luke. “Disabled parking has been abused, even before United States President Clinton signed it into law in the 1990s and it’s only been getting worse.” he added.

Equipped with a citation book, warning cards, a camera, pepper spray, and a radio, the President hopes he can not only teach valuable lessons to those who violate, but educate those as to why these parking spaces are so important.

Right now in Houston, the fine for violating a disabled space is $500 USD. As of Wednesday evening, President Luke has issued 16 citations, resulting in a total of $8,000 in fines. Some citations will be dismissed, especially when issued to a disabled person who forgot to hang their placard.

Those who refuse to pay their fine risk having their vehicles booted and their credit affected. With the position being a volunteer community initiative, President Luke will spend most of his days off from work performing these duties.

First two Members of Parliament sworn in this week

PARLIAMENT – Founding Mother Kassie Hood of South Dracul, along with Paul Frye of North Dracul were sworn into Parliament this week, as the first two Members of Parliament.

The new members were voted in approximately two weeks ago, as a special election was held, due to Parliament losing a majority of their members, after the Breco Independence.

Hood was sworn in on the evening of June 7th, with Frye following on the evening of June 8th. The two have never worked closely before, however both have expressed their desires of restoring the Draculian Parliament, with frequent attendance and positive laws.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be back in Parliament, where my associates and I can bring back the good days of Dracul.” said M.P. Frye, ND. “I look forward to working alongside my new associates, as well as my former partner, M.P. Estrada.” he added.

Sarah Estrada, Bruce Cooper, and David McGee are still awaiting their swearing in ceremonies and are expected to take place at any time between this week and next.

Voter turnout the highest in Draculian history during 2022 Special Election

Elections have been a significant part of Dracul since 2018, especially when it comes to the first Presidential Election, which was held last year. Voter participation is important for a democracy, due to the fact that the people are the ones who decide the future.

On average, only about 20 citizens register to vote, either due to their age or disinterest in elections. But even with 20 registered to vote, approximately 15 usually cast a ballot. The 2022 Special Elections however showed an unusual change, as 16 out of the 18 who registered ended up casting a ballot.

The Presidential Election of 2020 resulted in about 20 ballots casted, however, that was mainly due to that being Dracul’s first Presidential Election. When it comes to voting in midterms and for new Members of Parliament, those elections are typically some of the lowest when compared to this election.

It’s unknown as to why so many voters actually participated in this election, especially since all candidates ran unopposed. No one can argue though that the turnout was the best on record, which is certainly a blessing.

“We all know these candidates who are running unopposed are going to win, however our form of government requires ballots to be casted regardless.” said President Stephen Luke. “It’s part of the civic duty of a Draculian to cast ballots anyways, so we’re glad more than 80% performed their duties.” he added.

Voter Registration Certificates, which are issued to those who register to vote, expire every two years. Registering to vote is typically only open in election years, due to the fact that registering during non-election years will leave voters with an unused, expired card. Registering to vote is quick, free, and easy.

With more activity starting to kick back up within the Commonwealth, we can only hope that the number of registered voters, along with those who actually vote continue to rise, especially in future elections with actual competition.

15 dead, several injured in Texas mass school shooting

UVALDE, TEXAS – In a mass shooting at an elementary school, fourteen students and one teacher were killed. Authorities say the gunman, an 18-year-old from the small town, is also dead.

“He shot and killed, horrifically, incomprehensibly, 14 students, and killed a teacher,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a macro conference, hours after the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District reported an active shooter at Robb Elementary School.

According to Abbott, the accused gunman entered the elementary school with a handgun and maybe a rifle at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and was shot by law enforcement officials who responded to the scene.

A 10-year-old child and a 66-year-old woman, both in critical condition, were taken to University Health Hospital in San Antonio, 85 miles east of Uvalde, following the shooting. Uvalde Memorial Hospital received 13 children for treatment and reported that two deaths occurred upon arrival.

Robb Elementary School has roughly 500 students in grades two through four, the majority of whom are Latino. The district’s last day of school before summer break was set for Thursday.

“Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde,” Abbott said in a statement, adding that state officials would “ensure the community has what it needs to heal.”

President Stephen Luke is expected to address Dracul tonight at 8PM CDT, over the shooting incident, as Dracul is surrounded by Texas, as well as Uvalde being a former vacation spot for the President and his mother.

In this election, as in many others, candidates will be running unopposed. With this being the case, some are unsure the reasons for an election taking place. The answer is simple: Democracy and law. Candidates, once elected, will be sworn in the week after, with Vice President Connor Modena still leading as the Parliamentary President.

Both physical and online polling stations will close on Saturday the 28th at midnight, central daylight time. Citizens can register to vote by visiting draculgov.com and selecting “Register to Vote” at the top of the homepage.
