First two Members of Parliament sworn in this week

PARLIAMENT – Founding Mother Kassie Hood of South Dracul, along with Paul Frye of North Dracul were sworn into Parliament this week, as the first two Members of Parliament.

The new members were voted in approximately two weeks ago, as a special election was held, due to Parliament losing a majority of their members, after the Breco Independence.

Hood was sworn in on the evening of June 7th, with Frye following on the evening of June 8th. The two have never worked closely before, however both have expressed their desires of restoring the Draculian Parliament, with frequent attendance and positive laws.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be back in Parliament, where my associates and I can bring back the good days of Dracul.” said M.P. Frye, ND. “I look forward to working alongside my new associates, as well as my former partner, M.P. Estrada.” he added.

Sarah Estrada, Bruce Cooper, and David McGee are still awaiting their swearing in ceremonies and are expected to take place at any time between this week and next.

Voter turnout the highest in Draculian history during 2022 Special Election

Elections have been a significant part of Dracul since 2018, especially when it comes to the first Presidential Election, which was held last year. Voter participation is important for a democracy, due to the fact that the people are the ones who decide the future.

On average, only about 20 citizens register to vote, either due to their age or disinterest in elections. But even with 20 registered to vote, approximately 15 usually cast a ballot. The 2022 Special Elections however showed an unusual change, as 16 out of the 18 who registered ended up casting a ballot.

The Presidential Election of 2020 resulted in about 20 ballots casted, however, that was mainly due to that being Dracul’s first Presidential Election. When it comes to voting in midterms and for new Members of Parliament, those elections are typically some of the lowest when compared to this election.

It’s unknown as to why so many voters actually participated in this election, especially since all candidates ran unopposed. No one can argue though that the turnout was the best on record, which is certainly a blessing.

“We all know these candidates who are running unopposed are going to win, however our form of government requires ballots to be casted regardless.” said President Stephen Luke. “It’s part of the civic duty of a Draculian to cast ballots anyways, so we’re glad more than 80% performed their duties.” he added.

Voter Registration Certificates, which are issued to those who register to vote, expire every two years. Registering to vote is typically only open in election years, due to the fact that registering during non-election years will leave voters with an unused, expired card. Registering to vote is quick, free, and easy.

With more activity starting to kick back up within the Commonwealth, we can only hope that the number of registered voters, along with those who actually vote continue to rise, especially in future elections with actual competition.

15 dead, several injured in Texas mass school shooting

UVALDE, TEXAS – In a mass shooting at an elementary school, fourteen students and one teacher were killed. Authorities say the gunman, an 18-year-old from the small town, is also dead.

“He shot and killed, horrifically, incomprehensibly, 14 students, and killed a teacher,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a macro conference, hours after the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District reported an active shooter at Robb Elementary School.

According to Abbott, the accused gunman entered the elementary school with a handgun and maybe a rifle at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and was shot by law enforcement officials who responded to the scene.

A 10-year-old child and a 66-year-old woman, both in critical condition, were taken to University Health Hospital in San Antonio, 85 miles east of Uvalde, following the shooting. Uvalde Memorial Hospital received 13 children for treatment and reported that two deaths occurred upon arrival.

Robb Elementary School has roughly 500 students in grades two through four, the majority of whom are Latino. The district’s last day of school before summer break was set for Thursday.

“Texans across the state are grieving for the victims of this senseless crime and for the community of Uvalde,” Abbott said in a statement, adding that state officials would “ensure the community has what it needs to heal.”

President Stephen Luke is expected to address Dracul tonight at 8PM CDT, over the shooting incident, as Dracul is surrounded by Texas, as well as Uvalde being a former vacation spot for the President and his mother.

In this election, as in many others, candidates will be running unopposed. With this being the case, some are unsure the reasons for an election taking place. The answer is simple: Democracy and law. Candidates, once elected, will be sworn in the week after, with Vice President Connor Modena still leading as the Parliamentary President.

Both physical and online polling stations will close on Saturday the 28th at midnight, central daylight time. Citizens can register to vote by visiting draculgov.com and selecting “Register to Vote” at the top of the homepage.

Grand Duke Travis to discuss micro currency and crypto

Many know Grand Duke Travis McHenry from Westarctica, but others know him from his personal small business, Bloodstone Studios.

Whether you love ‘em or hate ‘em, McHenry has left an imprint on the micronational community, as well as the world with his work on environmentalism.

On Friday, May 13, the Grand Duke of Westarctica will guest on the Micro Improvement podcast to discuss micronational currency, as well as cryptocurrency.

After speaking with McHenry, I was able to collect much needed information on how to go about designing currency, the types of ways of producing it and alternatives, such as coins and stamps.

Cryptocurrency is a large industry these days, with many being able to create a new coin within minutes, according to McHenry. There are some legal matters that need to be understood before doing so, especially when it comes to the selling of crypto, according to Travis.

Whether you’re interested in learning about better currency designs or how to start your own crypto, this podcast episode will be for you.

The episode is expected to run approximately one hour and will be available at 7pm central on Anchor FM, Spotify, and Apple Podcast. Stop by then to find out what you might not already know about both topics.

Dracul Celebrates its own Victory Day with color guard parade and speech

FORT HOWIE – Many people around the world know May 9th as the day of victory for the Russians conquering Nazi Germany, however fewer know about Dracul’s own conflict in 2018, which resulted in a victory on the same exact day, without intention.

May 9th for Dracul celebrates the victory over the Dracul Confederacy, a rebel group which formed in early April 2018, which targeted religious peoples by Intelligence Director Al Fare.

While some of the incident was simulated as a means of understanding micronational war, Al Fare did in fact have a distaste for religious peoples, citing his atheism as his reasons.

The 2022 celebration kicked off in North Dracul, at the labyrinth location. The ceremony included a few attendees, as well as President Stephen Luke and Naval Commander Mark Millner.

Due to the ongoing macro conflict with Russia, the music was changed this year from Russian to Romanian and German. The event lasted about 35 minutes, under the hot Texas heat of 88F. Luckily for the color guard they came prepared with water and food, taking frequent breaks.

Due to COVID-19, there was not a Victory Day Parade in 2020. One did take place in 2021, however was attended by only a few, due to the continued scare from the pandemic.

This year’s event is also available on the KBRN YouTube Channel for those who could not attend in person. The broadcast is set to begin around 2:45-3:00pm, due to a few technical issues.

History made; Breco gains independence from Dracul

REZNINSK – Micronations declaring independence is a common practice among those seeking sovereignty. What’s not so common are declarations of independence from other micronations.

The Irish Federation of Breco, a now former territory of Dracul for close to a year made the decision to act on independence, due to the fact that the nation was well established, fully governed, military service was in effect, and land was owned, as President Luke explained it.

“It’s bitter sweet to see Breco depart, however we are maintaining positive relations and will be working on an alliance together.” said President Luke. “Breco is ready and we support them. This is exactly how independence in micronationalism is suppose to happen.” he ended.

A treaty of mutual recognition was signed earlier this morning between the two nations, marking the first time a former territory of Dracul created relations.

Federation Marshal Scott Jeanes gave his best wishes for Dracul, citing the soon to be NACO alliance as a way for the two nations to work together militarily. Jeanes is also a co-founder of the NACO alliance.

With Jeanes remaining a Founding Father of Dracul, his citizenship will be maintained, in addition to his Guardian of Dracul status. Vice President Modena, a co-founder of Breco, also will remain a citizen in his role as Vice President for Dracul.

Dracul remembers the Chernobyl incident of 1986; Luke to give speech at 8pm

For the women working at the wool processing facility in Chernihiv, northern Ukraine, spring was always the busiest time of year. During the annual sheep shearing season, the plant processed over 21,000 tons of wool from farms all around the country. The months of April and May of 1986 were no different.

The employees worked 12-hour shifts sorting raw fleece heaps by hand before washing and baling them. The women, on the other hand, began to fall ill.

Some people experienced nosebleeds, while others experienced dizziness and nausea. When the authorities arrived to investigate, they discovered radiation levels of up to 180mSv/hr in the factory. In many regions of the world today, somebody exposed at these levels would exceed the entire annual dose considered safe in less than a minute.

However, Chernihiv was thought to be well outside the hurriedly erected exclusion zone around the crippled plant, and radiation readings elsewhere in the town had indicated it to have relatively low levels of radiation.

The Chernobyl nuclear power plant was 50 miles away. On April 26, 1986, the power plant’s reactor number four exploded, exposing the core and releasing clouds of radioactive material into the surrounding area as a fire burnt out of control.

Sweden was the first nation to detect radiation within their borders, which quickly gave up the attempt to cover up the disaster on the Soviet Union’s part. Many nations, including the United States began to watch and monitor their own airspace, as it was feared that radiation could spread as far as the California coast.

Throughout the investigation, and up until the fall of the Soviet Union, the number of reported deaths remained at 50, however the United Nations believed those numbers to be much higher.

In an attempt to clean up as much as possible, both volunteers and conscripts were sent in to handle the radiation issue. These people – who became known as “liquidators” due to the official Soviet definition of “participant in liquidation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident consequences” – were given a special status that meant they would receive benefits such as extra healthcare and payments. Official registries indicate that 600,000 people were granted liquidator status.

President Luke is set to give a speech reflecting on the disaster this evening at 8pm central, located on the KBRN YouTube channel.

Dracul Founding Mother gives birth to first daughter

MOLDAVIA, SOUTH DRACUL – On the evening of Easter 2022, Founding Mother Kassie Hood gave birth to her first daughter, Delilah at 7:08pm local time, weighting 8 pounds, 12 ounces. This after a few days of a birth delay, but certainly in time for a special day.

Ironically, Delilah was born in Webster, Texas, which is approximately 5 minutes from the border of South Dracul.

It was a moment of joy, with some somber parts, as Aaron Hood the father, unfortunately passed last year due to a motorcycle collision. Kassie was surrounded by family and friends, which certainly gave her the strength needed at this crucial time in her life.

A birth certificate was issued by the Dracul Department of Health and Human Services, signed by Naturalization Director Charles Ross, which will be provided physically to Kassie in the next several days.

Several Draculians and foreign officials showed their support by congratulating Kassie on the Dracul Discord server, where she normally maintains communication with others, since her resignation as South Dracul Governor.

Delilah is the fifth born Draculian, with all other citizens being naturalized, including the founders. As with all babies born to current Draculians, Delilah is automatically a citizen, who will be able to decide at a much older age whether they wish to keep their Draculian citizenship or not.
